A progressive College which values its diverse community

We have made a commitment to promote 平等, value diversity 和 maintain an environment for study, work 和 living in which the rights 和 dignity of all our members are respected. We acknowledge that the responsibility lies with each of us to robustly challenge discrimination 和 we st和 together with anyone in our community who is adversely affected by discrimination, 并提供支持. We encourage its reporting by those who witness it as well as those who suffer it.

Hughes Hall echoes Vice-Chancellor, 斯蒂芬·J·图普教授的, words that ‘Any words or actions that suggest talent is determined by colour, 或性别, or by sexual orientation are wrong, 和 have no place at Cambridge…平等和多样性 must become deeply 和 irreversibly embedded in the University’s core work – whether it is education, 研究或管理.’

学生, 工作人员, Fellows 和 other Senior Members come from a wide range of backgrounds 和 nationalities, 和 enjoy being in a location close to Mill Road with its cosmopolitan shops 和 restaurants. We are proudly multinational, with students from more than 80 countries. Everyone at Hughes has arrived by a different route, 有着不同的背景, 和 brings different experiences, strengths 和 stories to their studies. That’s what makes life 在这里 so varied 和 fulfilling. The gates to our Gresham Court accommodation were sculpted by a well-known architectural blacksmith – the 117 marigolds represent all the different countries that our students have come from.

We are very proud of our diversity – the 117 marigolds on our College gates represent all the different countries that our students have come from.

Hughes Hall is proud to celebrate Black 历史 Month, 变性意识周, 和 LGBT 历史 Month every year. We work with MCR 平等 officers to hold a themed Formal Hall for each, 和 a range of events are organised by our community.  你可以阅读更多关于 ”+种族和性别 at Hughes Hall, 和 the wider university environment.
